There’s Only “One Tree Hill”, and it’s Your Home!

One Tree Hill, starred by Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott and James Lafferty as Nathan, is a teen-oriented series that depicts the story of the two half-siblings.

The show is created by Mark Schwahn and was premiered on The WB Television Network on September 23, 2003. As The WB merged with UPN to form The CW, the series was then aired on the latter network, up until now.

Their story is set on a fictional town Tree Hill in North Carolina, also a landmark in New Zealand. The half-brothers started out as heartless enemies but as the show progresses their relationship has also been mended. Lucas was a star basketball playerin his own high school basketball team. However he had to quit playing after discovering that he had inherited his father’s heart problem. Like Lucas, Nathan has also a love for basketball and equally popular in his own high school varsity team. Their love for balls is a thing they both inherit from their pro ball-er father, Dan Scott (Paul Johansson). Dan had long abandoned Lucas and his mother Karen (Moira Kelly). The intense relationship of the two siblings’ fires up as coach Whitey Durham (Barry Corbin) tapped the two to join Tree Hill hoops team. When the two worlds collide, it creates a lot of drama, heartaches and anger, as seen on air. Season 6 was the last season for Lucas (Murray) though.

Nevertheless, One Tree Hill still continues to grow and break new grounds. The series enters its eight season with more than 150 episodes under its belt. The story has been twisted after Lucas’ exit as the production heads try to maintain the integrity and success of the story line.

The new series stars James Lafferty as Nathan Scott, Sophia Bush as Brooke Davis, Bethany Joy Galeotti as Haley James Scott, Robert Buckley as Clay Evans, Austin Nichols as Julian Baker, Shantel VanSanten as Quinn James and Jackson Brundage as Jamie Scott.

Originally, show creator Schwahn planned to produce One Tree Hill as a movie with the title “Ravens”.  But he was convinced that it would be a better idea to have it as a television series instead. He also confessed that he drew the story based on his personal experiences, reflecting on the character of Mouth McFadden, played by Lee Norris. Schwahn also used to be on a basketball team while some of his friends only played street ball. In short, he wanted to show life beyond basketball, hence created One Tree Hill.

While Shwahn was penning his idea for the show, he had been listening to an album by U2, The Joshua Tree, of which the name “Tree Hill” was drawn. Puzzled fans frequently asked him as why the show was named One Tree Hill where the town’s name is just called “Tree Hill”. In episode 1.2, character Karen ostensibly answered the question when she told her son Lucas “There is only one Tree Hill…and it’s your home.”

One Tree Hill is full of drama, friendship, rivalries, betrayals and forgiveness but the two highest-flying themes are basketball and romance.
