“30 Rock” is an American comedy series that started airing October 11, 2006 on NBC. Produced by Broadway Studios and Little Stranger, Inc.
in association with NBC Universal, the hit comedy show was billed by the press as “…clever but not too cool, daffy but not slapstick, NBC’s ’30 Rock’…the funniest sitcom on TV.”
Created by Tina Fey, the satiric sitcom is slackly based on her experiences as a senior staff for Saturday Night Live.
The title “30 Rock” reflects to the location of GE Building where the NBC Studios stands, 30 Rockefellar Plaza. The hit comedy show is primarily filmed at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, New York. Some are likewise taken at the Rockefellar Center and Rockefellar Plaza.
Rounding the cast of this two and a half hour sitcom consists of Fey (as Liz Lemon), Alec Baldwin (Jack Donaghy), Tracy Morgan (Tracy Jordan), Jane Krakowski (Jenna Maroney), Scott Adsit (Pete Hornberger), Jack McBrayer (Kenneth Parcel), Judah Friedlander (Frank Rossitano) and Katrina Bowden (Cerie). The story follows the work and personal lives of the members of the fictional TV sketch-comedy show TGS with Tracy Jordan. Staffers include Liz who plays the head writer for the show; and Jack, the suave and sophisticated network’s big boss. The authoritative character of Jack always interferes with the show production which often leads to his clashing with Liz. 30 Rock creator Tina Fey confessed that she was pleasantly amazed that Baldwin accepted the role that she intended for him.
At Jack’s request, Liz was constrained to hire the reckless and highly strung comedian Tracy. Jane, the unseated star of TGS comically struggles to reclaim her top billing on the show. Pete, the clever producer of TGS, is Liz’s most trusted friend. Kenneth is the perpetually cheerful lad who is always happy to do his menial television job. Frank is playing a sarcastic role as the TGS’ writer while Cerie is Liz’s laid back assistant. There were also a number of guest stars who took part of the hit comedy series. Some guests include Al Gore, Larry King, Gladys Knight, and Oprah Winfrey. The distinctive role of each cast and guest contributes to the success of the sitcom.
30 Rock started out with low ratings during its first season but with time the show has picked up its momentum and started receiving copious awards. In 2009 alone, the show had a record breaking 22 primetime Emmy Award nominations and won 5 Emmy Awards. 30 Rock also hit the airwaves in other countries and consistently receives high ranks and ratings on the market. The show is currently running on its 5th season.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was tough-competing with 30 Rock during the onset of the show. It was also believed that one of which is unlikely to advanced to its second season then. However, although the former captured higher ratings, the show was cancelled right after its season debut because of high production costs. This led to a fortunate milestone for 30 Rock which started picking up pieces of the wiped out Studio 60.
